It’s that time of year, everyone… and we’re having a really great moment getting festive at our house. Case in point: This Halloween Mantel! Today I thought I’d dive in to a simple project that some of you might enjoy adding to your home for a little inspiration. So without further do: Colorful Halloween Wreath and Mantel
Usually, our mantel has this fun painting over it, but it never feels seasonally appropriate. And if it doesn’t have something covering it, we have our TVs behind every piece of art over a mantel in our home. Sometimes, I cover/replace it with other things in the cooler months, and I recently made this mirror instead {linked below}. It’s perfect for all things upcoming months and holidays! Especially the sparkly ones ahead.
First up: This Colorful Halloween Wreath!
It brought the entire room to life, and if you’re wondering about all the little elements, I have those linked below {as best I can!} too. Here’s what you’ll need to make a fun Halloween Wreath! {Some of these are affiliate links, besties! That means I earn a small commission when I share. Thanks for understanding.}
• Wreath form – I wanted mine a little larger so I went for 20″ – this was a more economical option and now I shall never run out. Wreaths for life.
• Glue gun + glue
• Scissors for trimming
• Mirror Balls – because there’s no such thing as too many
• Dried variety of pampas grass – fun for other areas of fall, too.
• Mini skulls + even smaller ones {close to the ones I used}
• Look it’s freaking bats
• Plain pumpkins + velvet ones – I used the excess for table decor this year
• Velvet ribbon
• Assorted acrylic paints and brushes – anything you have on hand will do.
Pssst… If you just want to save a list for later, check out my entire curated one here for all things Halloween mantel.
As you can see, I pivoted a little on the colors halfway through, which is why I have a variety of pastels here. But starting out, I painted my pumpkins and skulls the colors that I wished. And while those dried…
I went ahead and attached the velvet ribbon to my wreath form so that it was easy to work with. I wrapped it around and hot-glued it inside, securing the spot.
Next, I was ready to start adding that pampas grass. Pulling from a variety, I started with a large fluffy piece. I just kind of wove the stem into the existing metal piece of the wreath, and added hot glue as I went.
Then, I built it up with another and another… until it was nice and full.
Using a hot glue gun, {and watching those fingers} I just placed them slowly in different areas, where it looked good. Sometimes, I tucked the stems, and other times, I trimmed them so they weren’t visible since I just wanted the fluffy parts showing. Especially if it was just on top.
Once it was totally filled and I was happy with everything, I went in for the fun accents.
Then I just added to that as I wanted, around the wreath in little clusters.
Tada! I was done.
I adore all the colorful details and how it turned out!
I also loved bringing in all the fun little details with these additional colorful accents.
Other Decor ideas:
• Check out our mirror we made here.
• DIY ghost candlestick holders + candles {similar}
• There’s just something inherently fun about an old school terrarium, so I included it here.
• This skull we’ve had forever, that we tend to bring out + decorate every Halloween. This year, the mirrorballs are a bit disconcerting.
• An old leaded glass terrarium that we’ve had forever from a local flea market, filled with pumpkins + mirrorballs.
• These bleeding candles
• And these skull decanters {similar} that I used as vases to show off my last summer flowers – such a fun colorful combo!
I really enjoyed gathering some flowers from the last remains of summer in the front yard. That zinnia/dahlia garden is now on the struggle bus, but I haven’t had the heart to pull it up yet, and I’m waiting until after the first frost to collect those dahlia tubers.
I loved adding a little headband to our skull, too. She just felt right zhuzh-ed up with her pretty little bow and intense mirrorball eyes.
So here’s to bringing in a little simple fun this season. As always, let us know if you make this! We’d love to hear.
Have an inspired day!
