This project is so simple, it’s another silly share. But it’s an easy solution a lot of people don’t usually think about, and a great way to elevate the mundane, if you will, when it comes to simple finds. We moved our oldest into college a few weeks ago, and I thought this would be an easy project for anyone to do. Sometimes the simple ones are totally worth sharing. Today I’m sharing how to make this easy vintage pennant display!
I found this very same look for about 400 dollars on other sites. It’s not that hard, and I didn’t even spend one hundred.
But let me back up a minute. Once upon a time, the UTC Mocs were not the mockingbirds, but the water moccasins. And once upon a time, they played Auburn. A few times, actually. This old photo was found via here circa 1960-something
More here. LOLZ War Eagle, y’all.
So when I found this old pennant, I thought it would be so fun to elevate the look for his dorm room space.
Here’s what you’ll need:
• pennant {or really, any vintage piece or clothing or handmade item – see another example below} of choice
• Frame
• fabric
I have to add, a hot glue gun + hot glue also helps.
We have the handmade frame version below, but this one is the budget / easy example for sure.
Disassemble your frame {this one came with protective plastic so be sure to remove that as well.} and lie the back of the frame face down on top of your fabric. Cut your fabric to size with just a little to spare around each edge so that it wraps around the back. This way you won’t have any gaps.
Flip the entire piece back over, and add little dabs of hot glue on the very edge, making sure that edge will be hidden by the frame. The rest of the fabric should tuck neatly behind, so that you can still close the frame, and hang it easily on the wall.
This is me, trying to take a one-handed photo of the fabric on top, ready to be assembled.
Then, lay your pennant on top. If you care about your pennant, as in it’s priceless, use some special display tape. I just lightly tacked mine with hot glue once I eyeballed it, and kept going.
Then I flipped the entire thing back over {carefully} after checking for glue cobwebs {those are the worst} and reassembled the frame.
Tada! You’re ready to roll. It’s really that easy.
An elevated look with a simple piece.
This fit perfectly in his dorm, and we love the way it turned out.
It ended up right here over his chest of drawers, with his record player, too. See the entire tour here.
Poster frames are always a great go-to when it comes to quick and easy. But if you want to build your own custom size, be sure to check out our how-to here! We made this frame for Jamin’s childhood cape – his mother made it, and the kiddos wore and played in, too. We felt it was too much fun not to have in our now-youngest’s room! It’s a great, easy way to take something simple and make it oh so fun.
As always, let us know if you make one… we’d love to hear. Have an inspired day!
